When you become new parents, there is nothing in this world that matters more than your child’s comfort and safety. Buying new things and decorating their nursery is exciting, but you also have to exercise caution as wrong bedding can expose your child to a choking hazard. This thought is as unbearable as it is unthinkable.

Buying a baby cot bed doesn’t have to be as complicated as it is thought to be. You need to thoroughly research all the options and then make a purchase. Here are some things you need to keep in mind before you start researching.

Before you even start the process of buying the cot, you need to figure out your budget. The market is flooded with options suitable to all pockets. However, you want to buy the one that is a fine balance of affordability, safety and design. So start with writing down how much you are willing to spend for your infant’s cot.

With that out of the way, you would notice that your list has already narrowed down to fewer options. Now you have to determine your baby’s need. Are you looking for a cot bed or simply a cot? The former can be used for a couple of years as it can be transformed into a bed as your baby grows, the latter becomes unusable after six months.

Now that you have two aspects of your baby’s cot figured out, you will now have a much more realistic list of options to choose from. The next and the most important aspect of all is to assess the safety of the cot bed. Inspect it closely to look for sharp edges or loose nuts or bolts that risk being collapsed. You must also check the cot bed with the bedding. The bedding should be snug on the cot as your infant can roll over and get stuck between the sheets. This can be extremely dangerous for an infant as it can be a choking hazard for them.

The thing about cot beds is that they are extremely comfortable and provide an excellent sleeping bed for your kid. However, if you have a very tight budget, then you might want to give these ones a miss and choose cots instead. They are lot cheaper and can be used as soon as you get your toddler home.

As tempting as it may seem to pick up a cot on sale that is outrageously cheap, thorough inspection must always be conducted. While expensive doesn’t always mean good, cheaper doesn’t mean bad also. So, if you find a cot bed that is affordable, test it for safety and other parameters and you are good to go.
